Is TV good for you?
Is watching TV a good thing? Or a bad thing? Watching TV obviously isn't the best thing to do to waste time, but it also affects heart disease. Researchers have found that every hour of TV watched per day increases your risk of dying by 18% from cardiovascular disease. Also, TV also increases your risk of dying from any other cause by 11 % and 9% is increased for the risk of dying from cancer. According to the examination by the American Heart association of the results of the Australian diabetes, obesity and lifestyle study, 87 people died from cardiovascular disease and 125 people died of cancer in just 6 years.
How can you prevent a greater risk of dying? There are several possiblities to live a healthier life, but an important aspect is to exercise. Instead of sitting at home and watching TV for several hours, people should exercise at least 3 times a week. TV commercials have changed a lot throughout the past years, and they now advertise more food commercials than before. With people watching TV, more and more food commercials are appearing which affect the eating styles of several people.

Influence of Television
Do you think that people are watching too much TV? What happens when people watch too much TV? Heavy Tv viewers get five symptoms that affect their daily life routines:
1.) When people get stressed, they use TV to calm or sooth them
2.) They feel like they have a loss of control as they are watching TV
3.) They get angry at themselves when they watch too much TV
4.) They get addicted to TV, and aren't able to help themselves, so instead they watch TV
5.) When TV watchers don't watch TV, or aren't allowed to watch TV, they feel miserable and aren't in a good mood.
Did you know that the average child will watch 8,000 murders on TV before finishing elementary school? By the age of eighteen, the average American has seen at least 200,000 acts of violence on TV, which includes 40,000 murders. Not only does TV have a violent and emotional effect, many people say that TV is also a reason for the high percentage of obese people in America. A 1991 study showed that there is an average of 200 junk food ads in four hours of children's saturday morning cartoon shows. Children aren't the only people that get affected by TV. Studies have shown that one-third of American adults are also overweight. According to an American Journal of Public Health study, an adult who watches three hours of TV is far more likely to be obese then a person that watches one hour of TV. What do you think that people can do to become healthier? Is TV a big affect of the percentage of obese people in this country?

Why television?
Did you know the average person in the world watches 22.1 hours of tv per week? Yes, I know you are probably thinking that is a lot of time, but in the U.S, the average amount of time is 28 hours per week. What exactly is a television? A television is a telecommunication for transmitting and receiving images. The word television is a latin word meaning "far sight".When the first televisions came out, they were very small and all black and white. Television was not invented by a single inventor, many people contributed. It took many years to start the electric communication, and have the image appear on the screen. The first generation of TV sets were not entirely electronic. The screen had a small motor with a spinning disc and a motor and a neon lamp. They worked together to give a small blurry picture which was about the size of half a business card. This time period before 1935 is called the "Mechanical Television Era". Between 1935 and 1941, the televisions were perfected and several countries began to broadcast TV's in public. However, during the World War II, TV's were held back for a little while.
The time period after the World War II was when televisions started to become popular, and many people started to buy them. During the war, people saved their money which left them with money to spend after the war ended. Several people were eager to buy things such as houses and cars, and TV's were also popular too. During the years 1950 to 1959, TV's became more advanced, and then more people started to buy them. Also, color and remote controls were added to TV's. In our world today, TV's have changed a lot. They started out showing all black and white images, and they weren't as clear as they are today. TV's come in different sizes and shapes, and flat screens were also invented. Instead of having a rounded screen, and being thick and big in size, TV's are now lighter and thinner then they used to be. Do you think that TV's have become too high tech in our world today?
